EDIT: The van is now listed on eBay, link to the auction is here.
Unfortunately the time has come to sell my VW T4 2.4D Transporter 1998 campervan conversion.
I’ve owned the van since 2019 and in that time we’ve had some great trips away across the UK. Unfortunately due to a change in circumstance we are unable to use it as much as we want to and therefore I think it is best to go to a new owner that can benefit from it for the future.
A good chunk of money was spent by previous owners on the interior, there are full cabinets across the van and a rock and roll style bed. Also included in the sale is a mattress topper that we have used for extra comfort.
The cabinets are in good condition with the usual scuffs and scrapes to be expected from a van of this age. Included is a SMEV 9222 2 burner hob and sink unit connected to a Campingaz cylinder with quick release that is located in the bottom rear cupboard. There is no on board water tank however there is a pump that we have used with a 10L water carrier. The waste from the sink exits the bottom of the van where a waste carrier can be placed which I will include in the sale.
There is a table rail and table included that stores on the back door until required. The front passenger seat is on a swivel base that turns 180 to face the rear of the van.
Also included are Van-X curtains on the sliding door window, offside window and the rear window as well. Included in the sale is an external cover for the front windscreen.
There is a 230V mains hook up located behind the fog light at the nearside rear, this simply pops out and the 16A caravan style connector can be attached. This is wired to a RCD board at the rear that feeds the 2 x 230V plugs and also a battery charger for the leisure battery.
The leisure battery provides 12V to the electrical panel in the van and 12V socket. There is also a split charge relay installed under the dash so that the leisure battery charges whilst the van is running.
There are a few points that require improvement but unfortunately I haven’t got around to doing them:
- Fully wire in the 12V electrical panel, this is partially working but dependent on what the new owner requires would need some modification to get it working
- There is space for a 12V compressor fridge however we never got around to doing it and instead used a coolbox in that area connected to the mains supply
- The van requires a new roof lining – I insulated the roof and was planning to order one of the bespoke options available on eBay but never got round to it.
- There is 12V lighting but this is installed temporarily whilst the roof was being done and so this would need to be done as well.
- The previous owner has bypassed the glow plug relay and installed a manual button on the dash to activate the glow plugs. This hasn’t caused me an issue in all the time I have owned it but it is something to remember before starting especially on cold mornings.
The cab area has been left pretty standard with an Alpine CD radio unit installed. There is a carpet mat in the cab which is in fair condition. The drivers seat is captain style with two arm rests.
The van has the usual scratches and scrapes that are to be expected from a vehicle that is almost 24 years old.
The worst areas in particular are the rear tailgate around the window area at the bottom which has some rust and the sliding door which also has a crack in the paintwork and some rust damage. I had intended to sand down and rust protect and then repaint but never got around to it.
There are two vinyl decals one on each side and a small “T4 Travels” decal on the sliding door window. These could be removed by the new owner but we felt they added to the look of the vehicle.
There is also a 8mm C channel rail that is in the rain gutter and can be used to attach an awning/sun canopy to the vehicle.
The van has a full 12 month MOT (passed today, 26/03/2022)
The cambelt and water pump were replaced by Steve Emms, a renowned VW specialist, in September 2020. Since then the van has covered less than 1,000 miles.
The 12V starter battery was replaced approx. 12 months ago.
Current mileage is 224,678. The van was serviced by me (oil, filters) in summer 2020.
The van is registered with the DVLA as a motor caravan on the V5 which reduces insurance costs.
Also included is a folder with lots of previous paperwork and service receipts etc.
Overall this is a nice example of a T4 that has been tastefully converted and with a few jobs here and there for the new owner to complete will offer many years of service to come.
The van is located in Worcester (WR4 postcode area). I’m happy to arrange viewings etc. however these will have to be after 6pm due to work commitments.
Please ask any questions via the eBay questions system and I will be happy to answer them.
Payment is via bank transfer and funds must be cleared before the van can be taken away.
