Getting a decent set of curtains sorted for the van has been long on my list of to-do items ever since we first bought it last year. After looking at various reviews and seeing an installation of the Van-X curtains in a friend’s T4 I decided to take the plunge and order a full set (2 side curtains and a tailgate).
Delivery was excellent, just a couple of days after ordering via TNT even though I had chosen the free option. The kit came in two parts, one box for the two sets of side curtains and another box for the tailgate set.
Included in the package were two curtains per side, two rails, end stoppers for the rails and self tapping screws for fixing. I decided to use rivets rather than the screws provided as I thought this would give a better finish. No printed instructions are provided with the kit however these are downloadable from the Van-X website and I found it useful to print a set of these out to refer to while completing the fitting.
As always with this kind of work measuring is key to ensure a good finish along with a good quality hacksaw blade and drill bit. The rails need to be cut to the correct length and pre-drilled before using rivets or the included screws.
It took me approximately 1.5 hours to complete the first set as you can see in the picture above and slightly less than that for the sliding door and tailgate.
Both sides are an excellent fit with just the right amount of stretch in the curtains to keep them positioned correctly. Unfortunately the tailgate curtain is slightly looser but as I was limited as to how low I could mount the bottom rail this was to be expected however this doesn’t affect the finish of the curtains in my view.
In total we paid £142 for the 3 sets of curtains which is expensive but when considering the quality of the kit supplied is a fair price for what you are getting. Overall I would have no hesitation in recommending them if you are looking for a set for your conversion and I can only assume that the kits they have available for the T5 and T6 are of the same high quality as this one.
If you would like to see more details on the fitting of the Van-X curtains we have filmed a mini-series and this is now available in full on our YouTube channel.
